Class Experience
Social Studies- Melissa has a BFA in creative writing and a Master’s of Adolescent Social Studies Education and has been teaching for over 6 years. She is extremely passionate about the social sciences and strives to make history relatable to students. She is constantly looking to expand her perspective on historical topics by going to museums all over the world. ELA - Patty has over 30 years of experience in language arts education. While working as a public school educator, she served as a classroom teacher, instructional specialist and instructional coach. She is passionate about teaching and learning, and she embraces the opportunity to continue influencing readers and writers.
Students will need to commit to reading independently approximately 2 hours each week and preparing questions to use for discussion.

In both portions of this pod, students will discuss the dangerous situations refugees undertake to make it to safety, as well as the principles that impacted their situation (imperialism, ISIL, communism, etc.)
