Description
Class Experience
Students will use different resources to research a topic (planets) and be able to discuss a planet's unique characteristics. Student's will use the facts they learn about a planet to create an alien model or drawing that depicts what an alien would need to survive on the planet of it's origin. Students will be creative when making their alien and also work on presentation skills when explaining the features the alien has as it relates to the characteristics of the planet.
As a teacher, I love making learning hands-on, and also conduct classes that require some out-of-the-box thinking, reasoning and logic.
A 3D model or drawing of an alien will be assigned after Class #1 as well as a writing assignment of one paragraph describing the alien. Students will have one week to complete the assignment.
I will provide a list of resources for researching the planets as well as a template that can be used to take notes on to record facts. For the alien creation assignment, materials found around the home can be used: drawing paper paints, markers, pencils plastic bottles paper towel tubes, toilet paper tubes balloons cotton balls googly eyes fabric egg cartons buttons cardboard boxes tin foil construction paper plastic wrap glue/tape tin cans paper plates
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
