Description

Class Experience

In this course, budding writers will learn how to use dialogue correctly in three genres. Students will design their own fun and funky aliens to populate their stories throughout this course. These alien characters will then take a trip to Earth. What will happen when they get there? Your child will let us know through a comic strip, a short story, and a short play!

*This is the intensive/camp version of the course for ages 7-9. I also offer the course as a weekly class, and in two formats...

Students will be able to read and write dialogue in graphic, narrative, and dramatic texts
Students will improve their use of dialogue by:
-identifying character traits
-modifying word choice to match traits
-using appropriate punctuation
-differentiating traits of good narration and good dialogue

While not required, students are encouraged to complete or revise writing assignments between classes.
I encourage you to upload a copy of your child's play script to the Classroom tab between lesson 3 and lesson 4 so that I can help them navigate their work during their final performances.

All Lessons: 
provided worksheets
writing pencil
crayons, markers, or colored pencils
Lesson 4: 
(recommended) scissors
(optional) tape and popsicle sticks, drinking straws, extra pencils, twigs, or similar

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

3 hours per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.

Students will be reminded that these are friendly aliens and violent encounters will be discouraged. If your child will be disappointed by this limitation, please be sure to set the expectation with them ahead of time.
