Class Experience

Being the only queer kid can be lonely. Even if socially accepted and popular, queer kids need time together to just be. Without micro-aggression, without being the only one, to just be. This facilitated peer social group will help queer kids connect with other queer kids, explore their identities, talk about things happening in the news that affect our community, and learn some social and life skills. Each week the topic for the next week will be announced, with every 4th week just an open discussion hangout.

Facilitated by a queer woman and certified leadership, diversity and life coach with training in trauma-informed care, and coaching specifically for the queer community, this class will provide a safe social haven for queer kids to connect. We will choose topics based on the needs and requests of kids who come regularly. Topics include- self-care, making friends (gay and straights), identifying our values, impacts of current events on our community, how to connect to the community, and more. I can't wait to help you kids connect with other kids and get real about what its like to be queer.

Learning Goals

This class will give LGBTQIA+ students a place to connect socially with other queer teens and talk about relevant topics to them, queer themed or not. The primary goal is connection and belonging, but as a certified coach I will pepper in discussion topics about identity, self-care, boundaries, and other important life skills.
