Class Experience
Beginner - Intermediate Level
In this weekly 30 minute private piano class, learners will learn to play pieces they love on the piano. Perfect for transfer students, students with disabilities, neurodiverse learners, ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Homeschoolers, Unschoolers. I teach how you learn! *** Music reading and previous piano background is not required for this class. Perfect for total beginner to intermediate students *** These private piano lessons are perfect for any student who just wants to play what they want! These classes differ from traditional piano lessons in that we will not be using a method book and we will not be working through levelled curricullum. Instead, students will choose a piece they'd like to learn to play (often a pop song they're currently into, or a classical piece they've always wanted to learn to play). We will explore theory, reading, rhythm, and technique as it pertains to the piece. 🤔 W H Y C H O O S E Y O U R O W N P I E C E ? When students are interested in what they are learning, they are motivated to continue. Sometimes traditional piano lessons hinder students that would otherwise be amazing musicians! If a piece is too difficult, I can modify it to suit a student's level. I am open to music in any language as long as it can be replicated on the piano! 🤩 W H A T Y O U C A N E X P E C T 🤩 Depending on previous piano experience and goals, we will focus on one of the following. ❤️ Just the melody (with finger numbers or letter names) - For total beginners! 🧡 melody by ear or reading music (if you have the music) 💛melody with one note left hand accompaniment 💚 melody with full left hand chords - More experienced piano players 💙 Just chords - for singers, or those wishing to accompany singers. 🎵 S O N G S I ' V E R E C E N T L Y T A U G H T 🎵 ⭐️ I see the Light from the movie Tangled 🎻 World's Smallest Violin by AJR 🌌 The Nights by Avicii 🔥 Girl on Fire by Alicia Keys ❤️ Nobody Like you from Turning Red 🌍 A Whole new World from Aladdin 🐉 Believer by Imagine Dragons ✨ A Million Dreams from the Greatest Showman 🌊 How Far I'll Go from Moana 🇬🇷 Greek National Anthem 🏠 Mariners Apartment Complex by Lana del Rey 🥳 New Year's Day by Taylor Swift 💕 Mia and Sebastian's Theme from La La Land ⛵️ Wellerman Song 💯 Perfect by Ed Sheeran 👦 Lost Boy by Ruth B 🚘 Country Roads by John Denver 💞 All Too Well by Taylor Swift If you have any questions, feel free to message me! Hi, I'm Nefeli!
I'm a certified Online Music Teacher with with a BA in Psychology and a special interest in music and how we learn.
I've been teaching piano for over 20 years, as well as tutoring high school math and study skills. I'm a relationship first teacher which means I take time to get to know my students and find out how they learn and what their strengths and challenges are. I always focus on strengths first to build confidence and a love of music!
I am neurodiversity affirming which means that no matter your ability or disability, you will have access to high quality music education and that no matter your neurotype, you are welcome to be yourself. You can stim, you can play with your fidgets or doodle, you can turn off your camera, you can type your answers in the chat if that is your preference.
I have a variety of classes to suit your needs, including
- Just Games! (Fun way to reinforce theory)
- Camps
- No practice group classes
- master workshops on various topics (such as emotions and music, performance anxiety, rhythm, composers)
- 1:1 lessons
- 20 minute focussed practice sessions
- and more!
Fun facts about me:
1. I call myself the Neurodivergent Piano Teacher because it's easier than saying "I'm autistic and have ADHD and bipolar and executive dysfunction and prosopagnosia and aphantasia and anxiety and I teach piano" 😅.
2. I have been bellydancing for many years and have recently started learning ballet. While I love middle Eastern music, I have to admit that the piano music during ballet class really makes my soul happy.
