For class 1, students will master fraction basics (what fractions represent, vocabulary, different types of fractions, adding/subtracting with like denominators, relating fractions and decimals). In class 2, learners will master adding/subtracting fractions and mixed numbers with unlike denominators, and strategies for problems solving. I have a Master's degree in Education with an emphasis in multicultural education, and a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. While in a brick-and-mortar classroom, I taught single-subject math for 4 years and 5 years of math intervention.
Homework is provided for extended practice. Homework is accompanied by a video for students to self grade along with the teacher and see how the problem is worked out to evaluate any mistakes as needed.
Lined paper (college rule) and a designated folder to organize math notes, or a single subject spiral notebook, college rule Colored pencils (sharpened and ready to use) or colorful pens (I use flair pens or ultra fine point sharpies - if you use these pens, please have a "protector page" - a blank sheet of paper to put under the page you are writing on to prevent ink bleeding through) Ruler/Straight edge Printables as provided (only needed for some classes - will be posted the week of the lesson in which they are needed)
Digital quizzes are assigned for assessment for each class in the Learning Path. Scores will be shared with parents/guardians through Outschool messages. Homework should be completed as a practice before taking the quiz.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
We use Formative to complete the assessments. Formative is a web-based tool that allows teachers to create assignments, deliver them to students, receive results, and provide individualized feedback in real-time. The site is approved by Common Sense Media as a safe site for students. Learners will need to sign up. During our first week of class, learners will follow the directions (I post a video walking them through the process) and use a class code to join our online class to access the quizzes.
