In this engaging, multi-sensory, phonics, semester class we will use the Orton-Gillingham approach to learn about and spell combinations of letter sounds. It was developed for children with dyslexia or dysgraphia but would benefit any child. (Practice worksheets included.)
Class Experience
US Grade 2 - 4
During this class, learners will have engaging, explicit, multi-sensory instruction based on the Orton-Gillingham approach. We will take a deeper dive into five phonics concepts (consonant blends, magic 'e', vowel teams, r-controlled vowels) spending two to four weeks practicing each concept. We will also spend one week on short vowels, one week on digraphs and one week on ow/ou. I am trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach and used it for many years in my role as a Reading Specialist. I have a K-6 MN teaching license as well as a B.A. in Elementary Education and English.
Homework Offered
-I will attach 1-3 worksheets to each classroom post. These are OPTIONAL.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class

0-Any object that has texture (sandpaper, towel, sand on a plate, plastic needlepoint canvas, etc.) Pop Its work great! They can even trace on the surface of their table or desk. -Also I will send you a sheet that we will use during class. If you don't have access to a printer you can just use a piece of paper or a whiteboard.
