Orton Gillingham is a multisensory approach to phonics that was designed to help students with dyslexia and reading based difficulties. This introductory class for beginners, helps children develop phonemic awareness. Children will be instructed in basic phonemes (single consonants) with the use of on-screen phoneme cards. They will then have the opportunity to play bingo together, practicing the phonemes they have learned. This class does not involve any writing, however students should have a basic knowledge of the alphabet and corresponding sounds. We will focus on single consonants (no blends, vowels, or digraphs). This is a great class for absolute beginners or those who benefit from review work. Students should come to class prepared to work with their printed bingo board, and some type of counters to mark off their board. Alternatively, it can be laminated and marked off with a marker. Class Breakdown 1. Greetings and warm up 2. Recite alphabet together with visuals 3. Introduce phonemes via on-screen flashcards 4. Play bingo (one or more times, as time permits)
