Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
The focus will be on addressing each student’s unique reading needs. To ensure tailored instruction, I begin with a detailed assessment during the first session, identifying specific areas of focus that will shape the direction of our lessons moving forward. I use the Orton-Gillingham method to provide multi-sensory phonics instruction, which covers core topics like phonics, phonemic awareness, spelling, grammar, and reading comprehension. We’ll dive into specific concepts such as short vowels, vowel teams, digraphs, blends, and spelling rules. Each session builds on what’s been learned in previous lessons, and it typically takes about two-three days to fully complete one lesson depending on the age and/or skill set of the learner. To ensure mastery of each concept, I recommend attending tutoring sessions two-three times a week, which will prevent any material from feeling rushed or disjointed.

Each session is designed to be highly engaging, with the student actively participating throughout. I’ll share my computer screen to display slides and use a document camera to demonstrate instructional hand motions and encoding strategies. Students will also have to hold up their boards/papers to the camera to show me their completed tasks. We’ll work together interactively to make the most of each lesson.
