US Grade 1 - 4
While research shows that all students learn best through multi-sensory instruction, it is especially useful for students with dyslexia. By using their five senses to create, discuss, and hear sounds, students will be able to engrave various phonics patterns into memory. In addition to my masters degree in reading education, I also have obtained my 60 hours of training in Orton Gillingham training. My goal is to not only help students become better readers, but to have fun and enjoy the process too! Please note that words used in each lesson will be based on a 1st grade to early 3rd grade reading level. If your child is reading at a higher grade level, but struggling with spelling, this might not be the best class for them. Two video lessons will be posted each week. Each video will be 10-20 minutes long. Each lesson video will follow a similar routine: 1. Phonics/spelling rule will be explicitly taught 2. Teacher will model and encourage students to blend and read words with spelling pattern. 3. Teacher will model and encourage students to spell words with phonics pattern. 4. Teacher will engage students in a game and/or multi-sensory activity to practice the phonics/spelling rule. I will demonstrate using a different multi-sensory approach each week (play-doh, rice, pipe cleaners, shaving cream, etc). Students are welcome to use the same item or can simply use paper/pencil. 1 handout will also be provided with each video lesson. The handouts will provide additional practice with reading and spelling words that contain the given rule. I will explain the directions for the handout at the end of each video. Students will be asked to search their house each week for items that contain the spelling pattern and share their findings by posting a picture. Week 1: CVS words and Magic E Week 2: L blends and R blends Week 3: sh and ch Week 4: th and wh Week 5: ai and ay Week 6: oa and ow Week 7: oi and oy Week 8: au and aw Week 9: or and ar Week 10: soft c and soft g
