During our sessions, your child will have engaging, explicit, multi-sensory instruction based on the Orton-Gillingham approach. They will be introduced to phonics concepts in a sequential manner. I will use various props (magic wand for "magic e", vowel sticks and hand motions for short vowels, etc.). They will practice by tracing sounds with their fingers kinesthetically on an object of their choice (see supply list). Next they will touch spell, write words and read isolated words and words...
I am trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach and used it for many years in my role as a Reading Specialist. I have a K-6 MN teaching license as well as a B.A. in Elementary Education and English.
1 file available upon enrollment-Any object that has texture (sandpaper, towel, sand on a plate, plastic needlepoint canvas, etc.) They can even trace on the surface of their table or desk. -I have also attached a sheet to the welcome post that we will use for writing. You can print that before class. If you don't have access to a printer you can just use a regular piece of paper. -I may attach additional sheets as I determine the need of the student.
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
