Class Experience

In this one time beginner class, students will learn origami and fold paper to create three easy designs. They'll create three different large dogs (the pink, purple, and yellow dog). The illustration shows designs in a larger and smaller version. I'll have examples to show students how they can use each design for display, or as decorations for a handmade card or picture.

If the student is new to origami and doesn't have origami paper, they can fold white copy paper. Students can also use gift wrap, (I suggest plain on the back, no grid lines) or paper from advertisements that come in the mail, or magazines. If you prefer, origami paper can be purchased online at Michaels, Amazon, and Target. Paper can be one color or pattern on one-side with white on the other side, or two different colors or patterns. I use 6" square one-sided origami paper.

Students will need five 6" squares of paper to make the three designs. The pink and purple dogs need two 6" square pieces of paper each, for the body and head. The yellow dog needs one 6" square. Students can bring multiple papers to class if they want to make more of each design. Students will also need crayons, markers or colored pencils to decorate the faces, or color spots on their dog if they want. Students need a glue stick to glue the pink and purple dogs together.

The extra items student would need if they want to extend their artwork include:
* construction paper or copy paper if they want to make cards or pictures.
