Class Experience

Have you ever spent way too much time looking for the video you created? In this class, students will be asked to think about a file organization structure that will help them speed up video creation and uploading. I will briefly show students how to organize their own videos on their computer so they are ready to upload to YouTube. I will not talk about how to edit videos in any specific program but will talk about how the organization of files can boost student efficiency. This class is good for beginners or intermediate video creators looking to improve their video editing process.

Learning Goals

The main thing that students will learn is how important organization is for efficiency. I use file organization to improve my efficiency in my day to day life - at work, home, and for YouTube. By talking to students about how they can become better at something they are interested in they will learn a skill that will help them in every aspect of life.

Important: I will not talk about how to edit videos in this session. I can offer that in a separate session.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Sometimes students try to get people to subscribe to their channels in sessions about YouTube. Students are not allowed to self-promote their channels. I ask them not to share their YouTube channel name or links. If it happens the chat will be turned off. If they continue to attempt to self-promote I may need to remove them from the class. They are allowed to talk about the kinds of videos they make where it is relevant. Student privacy is important for a comfortable learning environment.
Supply List
I will provide a copy of the slides after the session is over. PostHaste is recommended but not mandatory. Students should have parental permission to upload videos to YouTube after the session. Students without a YouTube account may feel disengaged towards the end of the session. However, they are welcome to join.
