Description

Class Experience

I have worked with many high school and college students, so I know it's extremely difficult to make time for items that don't seem urgent right now because they are legitimately overwhelmed with too many things competing for their attention. Unfortunately, students don't realize how important it is to organize school, work, and extracurricular samples until it's too late. That's why I make sure students actually create and fill-in their organizational systems during the 1-hour session - there is no option to put it off! They also leave the session having made the connection between small, manageable actions now that result in tons of saved time and frustration down the road.
Students need the following items to create a physical career organizational system: 5 hanging file folders/large envelopes/shoe boxes (basically just something to be able to put papers and samples in) Marker Labels Sticky notes Index cards/scrap paper cut into half pages Pen Paperclips If you don’t have something, substitute! There is no need to buy anything fancy. Simple is best, so just use whatever you have around.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Please attend the live session on a computer or device which allows annotations in order to be able to participate fully (mobile devices are limited to highlighting and drawing). We annotate directly on screen slides for brainstorming rather than using the chat box. I do my best to accommodate those on mobile devices by adding their chat or voice comments to the screen but may not be able to capture all ideas if multiple students are on mobile devices.
