Class Experience

In this book study, students will read and discuss Getting Things Done for Teens by David Allen. Students will then apply learned strategies to their school and personal lives to improve organization, time management, and productivity.

Students are assigned readings from the book each week to complete prior to class. During each live session, we will discuss topics covered in the reading and how they can be applied in our everyday lives. Students will have an opportunity to self-reflect on each of the principles of Getting Things Done through weekly planning exercises and discussions.

Students will practice the strategies through exercises that allow them to improve upon the areas in their lives that they currently find challenging. At the end of each live class, students will be asked to incorporate the learned strategies into their daily schedule throughout the week. Students will then share how they implemented the strategies, how the strategies worked for them, and any recommendations they would make to their peers. Student participation and engagement in class discussions will allow students to extend their learning through other students' ideas and discoveries. Please note that session lengths may vary based on the number of students and the length of class discussions.

Topics Include:

Week 1: Overview of the Getting Things Done (GTD) Principles
	     Identifying Distractions, Stress, and Overwhelm

Week 2: Capturing and Clarifying Physical, Digital and Mental Clutter

Week 3: Organizational Tools
Developing a Process to Self-Reflect and Stay on Track

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello, I'm Jen Larimore and I am passionate about teaching high school students to become college and career ready. I have been a college and career advisor in the public high school setting for 7 years. My experience in college and career readiness also includes my work as a college Academic Advisor and a coordinator for career services at the university level.

I have a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership and a Master's Degree in School Counseling. I am also certified in Elementary Education and Business Education. I am excited to teach courses on the topics of career exploration, college admissions, financial aid, job search skills, and job-skill development.

I am passionate about what I teach because I know college-readiness and career-readiness change the lives of our students! My goal is to help each student realize their potential and give them the tools and the confidence needed to go after their dreams. Each of my students is on an exciting journey and it is a tremendous privilege to go along for the ride!

On a personal note, I am a Florida native. I enjoy reading and working out. I am a mom to two sons, ages 6 and 8. Our family hobbies include hitting up theme parks as often as we can, spending time by the pool, reading Harry Potter, and playing foosball. When we aren't doing those activities, I am usually getting schooled on Legos, Star Wars, and Marvel movies by the men in my house.

I can't wait to see you in class!
