In this one-time class, students will gather together to practice PEMDAS (order of operations) while learning how to play this fast-paced game of Board SLAM! This game is appropriate for a variety of math skill levels from 4th to 7th grade. If they have been introduced to PEMDAS, this is a great game for them to get a lot of practice in a short amount of time...and have fun while doing it. At the beginning of class, I will review PEMDAS and demonstrate how we will play the game using dice, scrap paper and a Board SLAM game board. This game is similar to BINGO, but with a fun math twist! I will show the students how we will use just three numbers to solve for a variety of answers ranging from 1 to 36. Students will compete against each other in this fast-paced problem solving game and continuously discuss their problem solving skills and questions. Don’t stress about getting the wrong answer! That’s when we learn the most!! I look forward to seeing you in the classroom!
Learning Goals
Students will practice order of operations and use a variety of math functions to creatively get a variety of possible answers. This increases their math efficiency and fluency, while having fun.
