Description
Class Experience
This FLEX class is an asynchronous version of my LIVE class "Intro to Pre-Algebra!" Unlike the one-time class, students are able to work on individual skills each week (see breakdown below), which may help them solidify the concepts at their own pace. Although we will not be meeting live for the FLEX, I will provide students with the notes, examples, activities and directions needed to seamlessly follow through each lesson. Students will be encouraged to take notes as they move through the...
In this FLEX class, students will: -use PEMDAS to simplify math expressions -learn the integer rules -use mental math and inverse operations to solve emoji puzzles/review solving equations -use decoder puzzles to practice graphing ordered pairs
I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics as well as a Master's Degree in Education with a concentration in STEM. I have created and collected a wide variety of resources to help students engage in a fun and comfortable way while building a strong foundation in mathematics. With 20 years of experience teaching in the classroom coupled with 5+ years of experience teaching online to students with varying abilities and needs, I feel extremely qualified to deliver this instruction to learners via Outschool.
Students will have the option of participating in group Quizizz activities and working on activities with a partner. These activities should not take longer than 1 hour to complete. The "homework" is completing all activities provided before the new lesson is released at the beginning of the week.
It would be nice for students to have a three-ring binder in order to keep track of assignments and notes each week. I will provide a PDF via Outschool messages that will explain to students what needs to be for the week (objective, discussion question, notes and assessment). A calculator and graph paper would be nice items to have, however, when possible, I will suggest websites that may have the tools that a learner may need (example: online calculators).
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Each lesson will have an assessment that students can complete for feedback.
No live meetings, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
