Homework
Learners should listen to their assigned piece outside of classes. Other homework may be set depending on the goals of the learner.Class Experience
Study one or more orchestral piece(s) in more depth, learning and discussing the sound of the piece, music theory elements, history and context, and other elements of analysis. In this 1:1 class, we will focus on skills appropriate to the level of each individual learner, such as how to follow along reading an orchestral score while listening to the music, how to identify features within the written score, and how to describe the musical effects of the orchestration. The class will be adapted to the requirements and abilities/previous knowledge of the student. Learners may choose their own orchestral pieces to study, or work with pieces chosen by the teacher. The class is available for one-off taster sessions, or for weekly ongoing meetings subject to availability. Please message if you would like to discuss particular subject/topic requirements for your learner. The class is available as a one-time or ongoing 1:1 class! Click "check availability" to schedule based on my standard availability, or reach out with your desired timeframe, day of the week, and time zone. Learners do not need to play an instrument or take singing lessons to study music theory, but with some topics, it helps if they're happy to clap or sing/hum some notes with guidance. Teaching methods will include guided questioning, discussion, listening and reading activities, and more depending on the level and music being studied. Worksheets or exam-style questions may be provided where relevant to the topics being discussed.
