|Camp Boom! 3| Algebra | Interpreting an Equation | 3-Day Summer Camp

"Boom! Nailed it! I know to interpret a linear equation!" This is what your learner will say at the end of this 25-minutes 3x in 1 week mini-camp where learners who come in knowing the basics linear functions build their ability to take a featured equation, rearrange it into proper form and then identify the components- like independent/dependent variables, m, b, and graph.

Description

Class Experience

At the end of this course, your student will be able to say, "I can plot linear equations given to me like rapid fire and get them right!" "I can read a basic word problem and model the appropriate linear relationship from it using equations and graphs."
I've been certified in the public schools for teaching math in middle and high schools. I received additional certified training for gifted and talented learners. I taught math for sixteen years and I've been a personal SAT tutor for seven years. My students have typically raised their scores between 100 and 300 points. As a chemical engineer and project management professional in the world of business consulting and information technology consulting, I've completed over five levels of college calculus and applied mathematics and used these math and computing skills throughout my career.

The students I have taught had varying learning abilities that ranged from one with pronounced learning disabilities to gifted and talented. When it came to PSAT's and SAT's, each of them with impressive improvements in their scores.

It can be done! I used a focused approach. We honed in on trouble areas, really understood the underlying math concept, and drilled for mastery.

No homework will be assigned for this class.

The learner's progress is assessed by how well the learner participates in the interactions during class.
1 hour 15 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Your learners will never question himself again on these building blocks of linear equations and graphs because in this camp, we teach ever learner to master! Your learners will be able to answer: what is the slope, the intercept, an ordered pair, a positive vs a negative slope, the 3 different forms of a linear equation, independence and dependence, how to study an equation and match it up with one of the 3 forms of equations, how to spot an equation from a graph and vice-versa. How to read rise over run.

In this one week, 3-times-a-week class, learners will master and internalize the core of linear equations-- how to plot them, how to write and equation by looking at a graph, how to articulate a conversation about the graph and line using precise math terminology, and how to "think" in terms of linear plots.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
