Orange and Clove Pomander: Create a Homemade Scented Christmas or Holiday Gift.

Learners will make a fun, old-fashioned Christmas craft - a clove studded orange, to tie with a ribbon, hang on a tree, or a door knob. Pomanders make a lovely homemade Holiday gift. Students may chat with other students while crafting.

Class Experience

To complete this class, learners will need - - A navel orange (or 2 depending on how many they would like to make) - A bag of whole cloves (approximately a handful will be needed). A clove is a spice, for this class you need whole cloves. Whole cloves are available in the spice section of grocery or discount stores. - A length of ribbon, yarn or string will be needed to hang the orange. (optional) - Several toothpicks or skewers (optional). - an embroidery or tapesty needle (big eye hole) to string the orange (optional). - a pencil to pre-draw a pattern if they choose (optional).
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
25 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Student will use a toothpick to poke holes in the orange to poke cloves into, so there is a chance of getting poked by a toothpick. Students may choose to use a needle to thread a ribbon through the orange, which also has the risk of poking a student's finger, there is also the option to just tie the ribbon and not use a needle if preferred. Both options will be taught.
