This class will teach essay outlining and planning to students who have written five-paragraph essays and need more practice to perfect their skills. It will provide students with the opportunity to create and share opinion essays. Each week, a different fun opinion question will be asked and students will work alone or in a group to plan and write a five-paragraph essay. Students will also be taught how to provide constructive feedback and help each other build skills. Learners will do some of the work on their own, but often collaborate either to plan together or write together, and will share and give feedback (based on specific guidelines) in every class. Vocabulary and sentence starters may be included in initial mini-lessons, as needed. Please note that this class provides structured practice for students who have already been taught the basics of five-paragraph essay writing.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to strengthen and maintain their skills in writing five-paragraph persuasive essays. They will also learn to provide positive feedback and edit their work based on feedback.
