Class Experience

If your student loves doodling or loves to create cards and give encouragement, THIS IS YOUR CLASS!

In this class we will be creating three to five different encouragement cards that are "punny" --meaning they use puns! Students will follow along and draw while I use a document camera showing them the steps to create the cards. They are welcome to ask for clarification, ask questions, and share their work during our time together. The card options for this class include:

"I be-leaf in you!"
"Im rooting for you!"
"Hang in there!"
"You goat this"
"Yes, you can"

(see video course description for visual examples)

The amount of cards that we complete will depend on the speed of students and their capabilities. (Im a bit fan of allowing students to enjoy the ride and if that means we only get to three drawings rather than all five, that is okay!)

I teach through demonstration and verbal instruction with lots of praise and encouragement. This class is meant to be fun and relaxing for students and offer an opportunity for them to get creative! We have fun and share our ideas and creativity during class!

Supply List
Students should have a good dark pen or marker. I use a sharpie fine tip but students are welcome to use whatever they desire as long as it is dark. Markers, colored pencils, crayons are all great options for students to have on hand as well. Students should also have white paper handy. I use white computer paper cut in 1/2 to create a "card" look, but students can use whatever is desired both in size and shape.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi there!
My name is Patti Shivers and I’ve been a teacher for over 30 years!

I LOVE teaching. I love showing students how to do things they dont know how to do and help them master it. I enjoy seeing them feel accomplished and proud of themselves and also for them to realize their potential!

I have taught Mathematics in grades 7-12 and also have taught self contained classes of 5th and 6th grade during my career.

I love to doodle! Im that person who always has a pen in their hand and is sketching or drawing while listening. Its actually something helps me take notes and stay focused.

Doodling is such a fun way to exercise creativity and an bring joy to those who are creating! Art, and being a creator of it, is so good for your mind! Many times when we doodle it gives the doodler an opportunity to process thoughts, feelings and emotions!

Fun fact about me is that I love love love animals and am crazy about our two cats!!
