Description

Class Experience

Students will deeply understand how misinformation spreads quickly. Students will develop the skills necessary to verify information online, and not be a victim to bad content.
I have enrolled in the News Literacy Project's online webinars on how to fight misinformation. Much of this curriculum comes from these webinars.
After the first class, I will assign a challenge for each student. Students will be responsible for verifying whether a piece of information is legitimate, and for showing me how they verified the content.
Learners will need a notebook to write in. This can be a paper notebook, or just a notebook application on the computer.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
2 hours per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
As much as I will try to keep politics out of these discussions, much of the misinformation that exists online is political. Students will be confronted with images or content that may be controversial. My use of these examples are not an endorsement of any political ideology or issue.
