In this weekly, ongoing course, we will observe, discuss, & draw different animals each week based on their classification - mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, and amphibians, as well as invertebrates. The content does not build, however it is a complete semester course. This lesson provides several positive learning outcomes. By drawing one animal and learning about its classification, the learners are able to gain a deeper understanding of science and art in our world around us. Other learning outcomes include positive communication and critical thinking skills. Group discussion during the presentation and activity promotes positive communication, as does sharing the artworks in the concluding discussion. Additionally, the learners will utilize critical thinking skills by applying, analyzing and synthesizing their prior knowledge and experiences into the class discussion as well as into the artwork they create.
