US Grade 4 - 7
Beginner - Intermediate Level
In this weekly ongoing course, we will learn how to draw portraits one part at a time, including eyes, noses, mouths, heads, hands, feet, and body positions. Each week, we will learn how to draw several variations of each body part. We will learn drawing techniques that include line drawing as well as shading techniques for a more 3D effect. By doing so, learners will also practice the art principle of proportion. First, we will observe and discuss examples for understanding and inspiration before beginning the guided drawings for the week. After creating several sketches together, we will engage in a discussion in which each learner will have the option to share their artwork with the group and talk about it. This concluding activity promotes positive discussion, strengthening communication as well as critical thinking skills. This class is also available as a 1:1 private tutoring class. Learning Goals
This lesson provides several positive learning outcomes. By focusing on one body part and practicing drawing it each week, the learners are able to gain a deeper understanding of how they are drawn together in proportion. In addition, the learners are able to gain a deeper understanding of how each part is connected to the whole, and how together they provide the building blocks of art, as well as our world around us. Other learning outcomes include positive communication and critical thinking skills. Group discussion during the presentation and activity promotes positive communication, as does sharing the artworks in the concluding discussion. Additionally, the learners will utilize critical thinking skills by applying, analyzing and synthesizing their prior knowledge and experiences into the class discussion as well as into the artwork they create.
