Class Experience

Students will master the spelling and definition of common high frequency words and learn spelling rules.
I have taught in my homeschool for 16+ years and taught ESL for 5+ years online -- spelling is just a challenge! English is hard sometimes! It is such a mish-mash of other languages that it creates some crazy ways to spell words that must be learned apart from the standard phonics rules. Practice and reinforcement are the best tools for memorizing these common and friends make the learning fun!
I have a journalism degree from PSU and am IMSE Orton-Gillingham trained in phonics and reading instruction.
Practice! Practice! Practice!
Optional activities sent out after class each week.
A ready-to-learn attitude, some paper, and a pencil or pen! (or a dry erase board) The week's list will be posted after class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Check the sample list above for ability level.
If your child cannot spell any of the words correctly and is unsure of what they mean, this class may be above your child's level.
If all the words are a challenge for your child to spell but they know the meanings of the words (ie: your child can use some of them correctly in a sentence), this class should be a good fit for your child.
If your child can spell some of these words but others are a challenge, this class is right for your child.
If your child can spell all the words without a pause -- this class may be below the ability of your child. I am working on a grade 5-6 class and it may be a better fit.
