Spanish, Good Vibes, Reading, Songs, and Friendship in this Super Spanish Camp. In this ongoing Camp, kids will learn Spanish with a native Spanish speaker and professional teacher. Every class includes a song and an animated story. Then we read a book together, and the kids get to practice Spanish. This is both an academic class AND a social club since kids get to talk a lot. Every class includes at least a song and an animated story. Then we read a book together, and finally, the kids get to speak in Spanish and practice. If they come to every class, this means they will read 5 books per week together. How fun! Each class is divided into 4 sections (AFTER we all talk about our days and introduce ourselves in Spanish if possible, of course! Kids and what they have to say IS important.): 1. First, we sing an age-appropriate kid's song in Spanish. 2. Then we watch an animated story in Spanish, sometimes with English subtitles. 3. Then, we read a high-frequency word book. After the summer, they will come back to school speaking lots of Spanish. 4. Then, we talk about (in as much Spanish as possible) the week's topic. *BONUS: every Friday, instead of the song, we will DANCE. If your kid doesn't like dancing, that's fine! They can enjoy the music (only 2-5 minutes of dance), and then we get back to the routine. I Use Music to Teach Language… and Reading! Young children will remember information learned in a musical setting more strongly than in a setting without music. Why? Because music is repetitive, and they hear the same sounds and words over and over again. Likewise, learning with music activates the brain’s auditory pathways and strengthens knowledge retention. Also, music is enjoyable! And we retain information better when we like learning it, such as singing a catchy tune. According to a five-year study at the University of Southern California’s Brain and Creativity Institute, musical experiences “appear to accelerate brain development in young children, particularly in the areas of the brain responsible for processing sound, language development, speech perception, and reading skills.” This evidence reinforces the idea that children can strengthen language skills through music. What a great time to introduce songs in English and Spanish! Music also helps children with reading. In the book, The More We Get Together: Nurturing Relationships Through Music, Play Books, and Art, Gari Stein discusses how music benefits kids’ learning: Children with a strong sense of beat are more likely to read well. Music stimulates all the senses, helping children learn to recognize patterns and sequences. Early music exposure helps children learn by promoting language, creativity, coordination, social interaction, self-esteem, and memory. Singing games support children’s need to socialize and play instead of “pre-academic” skills. Music helps “wire” the brain, supporting a higher level of thinking. Get your child singing, dancing, and learning with these fun Spanish songs in Teacher Susie's Summer Camp 2022. This class is ESL Friendly. Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. (CEFR: all levels) Class is appropriate for CEFR: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2. WHY LEARN SPANISH? Knowing Spanish opens the door for you to communicate with 400 million people worldwide. In the United States alone, there are close to 54 million people who speak Spanish. According to projections in Forbes Magazine, by 2050, one in three people in the U.S. will speak Spanish. But not only that. Spanish lessons for kids offer an array of benefits beyond communication: * Learning another language is fun! * A second language helps widen the world of your child, introducing them to and offering them opportunities with other cultures, at home and abroad. * Foreign language study improves reading and communication skills, boosting SAT scores. * Bilingual children and adults are better at staying focused, problem-solving, and recognizing and acting on new inputs, making school and business life easier. * Simply thinking in another language has been shown to help people make quicker, better decisions. * Speaking a foreign language presents better educational and career prospects, as well as the opportunity for a higher standard of living. * Learning foreign languages even prevents dementia later in life. * Improves memory and analytical skills. * It strengthens the brain muscles. * It helps travel with ease. * Improves confidence! Speaking Spanish, after all, can change your life. Note: If you only want the reading part, I have an ongoing class exclusively for reading high-frequency Spanish books. Check out my profile or reach out to me! Note2: If you only want the dancing part, I have an ongoing class exclusively for dancing flamenco Zumba. Check out my profile or reach out! This is a learner-led Spanish class. This means that I will be selecting a topic that I believe will benefit most students enrolled in the course, taking into account their age and level of Spanish proficiency. Together, we will explore this topic and work collaboratively to enhance our Spanish language skills. So, come prepared to engage and learn in a dynamic and interactive classroom environment! YAY! A Message from Susana Lezcano:
"¡Hola estudiantes! My name is Susana Lezcano, and I'm a Spanish teacher and author from Madrid, Spain. From a very young age, I fell in love with the beauty of the Spanish language, and my passion for it has only grown stronger with time. When I moved to America at 17, I discovered that many Americans shared my love for the language, and I knew that teaching Spanish was my calling.
Over the years, I have developed a curriculum that caters to all ages and levels of proficiency in Spanish. After teaching on Outschool for just one year, I was fully booked, teaching eight hours a day! It was then that I realized that I needed a team of awesome Spanish teachers who share my passion for teaching and love for the language.
And so, Spanish the Fun Way Academy was born - a place where we teach Spanish in a fun and engaging way, helping students of all ages to learn and appreciate this beautiful language.
