Description

Class Experience

This class is taught in Spanish.
Learners will build their Spanish proficiency in speaking, writing, listening, and reading by engaging in conversation surrounding the topic of the day. The goal of the class is to facilitate acquisition of the language (which is the natural process by which we pick up language) so that they can express themselves using basic grammatical structures and increased vocabulary on general topics.

My specialty is language acquisition and my passion is doing that through topics. It feels like the most enjoyable and natural way to pick and and increase a new language. When I am not teaching Outschool I am a full time 4th grade Spanish immersion teacher teaching math & science 100% in Spanish to 9 & 10 year olds. I am also raising my young daughters to be be bilingual.
There will not be assigned homework. Learners would be encouraged to keep a notebook of the activities that we do each week that they may review between sessions.
Supplies are optional but would be ideal for the learner's engagement. If we do some sort of craft, the materials will be posted in advance. A designated notebook & writing utensils. highlighter colors (crayon, colored pencils etc) (scissors, glue, tape, construction paper may be used at times.)
As the educator I will be able to assess for my own needs where the learner is in their proficiency journey through the activities we do and I will adjust my instruction as needed to move the learners along in their proficiency process in all four areas: reading, writing, listening, speaking.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
The following third party tools will be incorporated from time to time and are optional.

Kahoot- used to reinforce vocabulary, has an engaging competitive component
Gimkit- used to reinforce vocabulary, has an engaging competitive component
Quizlet- used to reinforce vocabulary, has an engaging competitive component
Flipgrid- this tool can be used to record a speaking video- optional
Wordreference.com- this is a preferred online dictionary instead of using Google Translate because wordreference.com uses the word in context. The teacher will still be able to help the student with a word this is just an acceptable online Spanish dictionary

Google platforms- these are used only if the learner wishes to type out written responses but is not required.

Also parent may prefer to supervise learner while using scissors.
