Class Experience
In this ongoing class, learners will meet to explore their own unique voice and learn healthy techniques to unlock the potential that all music makers have. No previous experience is necessary, and beginners are more than welcome. Singers will start by warming up their voices with vocalise and technique exercises. We will then sing through a couple of well known warm-ups and singers-choice songs and apply what we learned. Singers will be welcomed to sing unmuted one at a time, if they...
Students will learn vocalise and technique to aid in their vocal production and may have the opportunity to apply those techniques in song.
I am a professional classical soprano in NYC and have been teaching music for over 20 years. I have a Masters in Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music. (Please see my teacher profile for more detailed information.)
Homework consists of practicing the techniques explained in class.
Please enable Original Sound on your Zoom settings. Try this link for more information or contact me for questions about it. https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/115003279466-Enabling-option-to-preserve-original-sound PDF handouts that include the warm-up exercises, lyrics, sheet music, and class notes will be posted to the classroom 24 hours in advanced if applicable. It is recommended that learners have water nearby and a quiet area to sing in. Background noise will make it difficult for me to hear.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I may provide feedback during class as well as posting class notes and goals in the classroom after each class. I also accept recordings and will offer feedback and guidance through the classroom page midweek. Also, you may be asked for constructive feedback for your peers, and they may be giving you some in return. So I ask that you are kind when giving feedback to others, and that you have an open mind when receiving feedback.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
This class meets once a month for 55 minutes. It is highly recommended that you enable original sound on your Zoom settings so that I may be able to hear your learner. Check out this link for more information. https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/115003279466-Enabling-option-to-preserve-original-sound Please make sure that the learner has access to water and is in a quiet environment so that they may be able to concentrate fully on the music. It is really difficult to learn music when there is a lot of background noise or distractions.
