This is a small ongoing fun math class that meets 3 times a week geared for 2nd & 3rd grade learners. This math class is designed to practice math facts, problem solving through mini lessons (with student practice) and end with math games and review. Lessons will include but not limited to time, money, math facts, number sentences, multiplication, division, graphing, number patterns, measurement, shapes, tallying, thermometer, number lines, skip counting, perimeter, story problems, and fractions. We will review past concepts to insure mastery and speed along with introducing new lessons and techniques for learners. We will learn how to use critical thinking to solve multi-step problems and we will review past concepts briefly while introducing new concepts with mini-lessons. We learn a lot, move through the material with short bursts of learning, laugh a lot and reinforce with daily homework and periodic assessments. Each mini-lesson is about 5-10 minutes (short burst of learning) covering a variety of topics. This class is tailored to the students in the class. This is NOT a traditional lecture class. Everyone is expected to keep cameras on and participate. Integrated occasionally are math facts songs (we listen), games, and lots of laughs. I've worked with this age group for years so I'm able to keep them on task, re-direct when needed but connect with them so much they BEG for more time and more classes. Kids get opportunities to participate, discuss ideas and possible solutions in order to solve problems. Worksheets provided and need to be printed. This helps keep them focused without needing a lot of help at home. This class does move faster than "average" but all kids find success and learn a lot. Reviews:
We absolutely love this class. My child catches on to math concepts easily but really struggles with focus. Ms. Wendy does a fantastic job of keeping him focused while also keeping his confidence up. The way she moves from topic to topic also helps him stay engaged and the class provides just enough challenge to keep him from getting bored while also not feeling frustrated. Ms. Wendy also does a great job of connecting with the kids and having fun with them. You can tell she genuinely enjoys interacting with them, which is so great for the kids—especially while they are so isolated! This is a class we will definitely be sticking with!
Ms. Wendy is the best! She keeps the children engaged that the children ask for more math! My daughter says it all. “I love math!” , she exclaimed. My daughter started with no interest and her math skills are so behind but now she looks forward to her classes with Ms. Wendy! She has progressed leaps and bounds and I’m so thankful that we found her class!
