55 mins in-class hours per weekHomework
1 hour per week. Some students may want to actively participate in class and research the upcoming province in order to bring interesting, fun, and factual information to the class. Students will be required to write a 5-sentence paragraph about the province we just visited. The student will have 3 days after the class is completed to turn in the paragraph to the teacher. The teacher will review the paragraph and send feedback to each student. In addition, each student may want to make their own scrapbook for all the provinces they have visited. After enrollment, the student will receive the information on the new provinces we are visiting.Assessment
Students will be assessed informally in class.Class Experience
US Grade 4 - 7
Students will learn the key facts as we take a road trip across Canada. Each week we will discover an area within a province, the surrounding towns, the capital, special landmarks, fun facts, and other interesting and important information in the current province we are in. This class is designed for students to enter the class at any point in the ongoing status because each week will be a new area of Canada. Students will receive information prior to class on which area we will be traveling into. Each student can then research information they find interesting and/or important to bring to class. The following is an example of how we will proceed with each province. Some of the larger provinces, we may divide the province into three or four regions, along with the capital. Week 1 (March 9th): We will be in Northern British Columbia Week 2 (March 16th): We will be in Southern British Columbia Week 3 (March 23rd): We will be in the Capital City of Victoria, British Columbia Week 4 (March 30th): We will be in Northern Alberta Week 5 (April 6th): We will be in Southern Alberta Week 6 (April 13th): We will be in the Capital City of Edmonton, Alberta This class will be interactive as each student has the ability to discover information about an area in Canada and share the information with the other classmates. In fact, it is encouraged for each student to bring a discovery to class. When each student is allowed a voice, in addition to the teacher, the wealth of information can be great. This will be an exciting adventure. I like to be a hands-on-to-learning teacher. This class is not about the teacher. The students are the focus and will guide the course. The teacher is just the facilitator. For this class, there is no prior knowledge required to attend this class.
