Class experience
As a middle and high school English teacher, I love being able to work with students one-on-one to identify areas of improvement and practice those skills that will help students be more confident and proficient readers and writers. Each class will be personalized for the student. For example, if a student needs help writing an essay, I can guide that student by helping with any of the following areas: breaking down the writing prompt, brainstorming, outlining, drafting, revising, and...
This class is taught in English.
By the end of class, students will be able to define their learning goal and explain one way in which they improved in that area of need.
Students should come prepared for class with homework or classwork materials with which they need help, such as an essay prompt, rough draft, challenging reading passage, vocabulary word list, a graded grammar test, etc.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
I use Google Slides throughout each class and display my slides through a screen share. The slides display prompts, exercises, brainstorming tools, and outlines. An account is not required. Google Drive and Google Docs may be used and accessed through a shared link. Learners will be given access to edit a document through a link sent through the chat feature on Zoom. The learner's email address is never displayed this way, and an account is not required. Kahoot and Nearpod may be used occasionally as part of an informal assessment or game, which involves the learner accessing the website on another device. An account is not required. I occasionally use materials and exercises for grammar lessons from a website called Grammar Bytes, or chompchomp.com. All of the material from the exercises is appropriate for children. An account is not required. I will mostly use the materials as part of my slides and display them using screen share.
