Class Experience
In this ongoing course, your student will meet with the teacher for 30 minutes to practice reading skills that meet them on their level. Whether your student is looking for extra support to help them succeed in the classroom, or if they are excelling and you're looking to enrich their reading skills then you've come to the right place. My Goals for your Student: 1. I have the belief that every student can enjoy reading - yes even the reluctant ones! We just need to find that one right book to hook them in. 2. I will work together with you and your student to design a goal-oriented routine for our meetings. When you sign up, you will be asked to respond to a short survey related to your child's interests and needs. Please send back your responses as soon as possible so that I can begin to design a goal plan. 3. Texts used will be based on your students reading interests and ability levels - anything from picture books, to short chapter books, novels or news articles will be sourced to meet your students where they are. CLASS STRUCTURE: Our first meeting will be focused on building a sense of trust and friendship between myself and your student, as we prepare to work together over the coming weeks. We'll share some of our favorite things and work to build a connection through silly stories and maybe even a game! Each session thereafter will be generally structured as follows : 3 minute check-in / Reminder "when we last met..." 25 minute for mini-lesson / read aloud and practice of skill 2 minute wrap up and review "HOMEWORK" / INDEPENDENT WORK: Work that needs to be completed in between sessions could include reading practice to prepare for discussions or, if your student is working on independent writing goals, they may be asked to continue their work outside of our meeting time. ACHIEVING: As we work together, I will monitor your child's reading goal/s. A document will be shared with you that will update with notes on their work and improvement. If new goals are recommended I will send you a message to discuss.

Parental Guidance
Parents: I completely understand that life sometimes gets in the way of our plans. If you are not able to have your child log in to the course within the first 10 minutes, I will close the course and attempt to reschedule the meeting one time. If that isn't possible I will be happy to extend your child's next session to compensate for the time lost.
Supply List
Each course will be unique in the curriculum needed. You may be asked to purchase or borrow a copy of a novel for older readers, or it may be suggested that you purchase a workbook for younger readers. **A home printer is recommended.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello there, and thanks for stopping by to check out my profile!
As a veteran public school teacher, I had the chance to work with some outstanding students and I saw, first-hand, the importance and "payoff" of creating a reading lifestyle. For many students, finding that book that will "hook" them on reading is still a crazy idea, but I've helped many students do just that.
I believe that each student can enjoy reading and writing - it's just a matter of finding the material and medium that interests them. Students' interest should be valued and helped to grow in new and interesting ways. After all, if you're not interested are you really invested?
I worked for 12 years in a great district before relocating with my family. I've taught Kindergarten, second and sixth grades; in both regular education positions and learning support positions. I earned my B.A. in English from Penn State (WE ARE!), and my M. Ed. in Instructional Leadership from Neumann University.
