Class Experience
If your child is an absolute beginner, or has been playing piano for several years, these piano lessons are right for them! I provide quality, fun, personalized piano lessons to meet your child where they are, and get them where they want to go. In these lessons, we will be learning: *How the piano works *Healthy hand and finger technique *Basic music theory and note reading *New songs to put what we're learning into practice *How to improvise and express ourselves In these one-on-one lessons, learners will have all my attention as I strive to create the personalized piano training that is right for them. We will begin using the Faber Method books, but we will continue to branch out if you or your student would like to try additional songs or a different program. I always strive to mix fun, creativity and play with the new concepts and songs we are learning. Each week we will be learning new songs and aspects of basic music theory, as well as thoroughly reviewing what we've learned in past weeks. I expect each student to practice at least a little bit outside of class, but I realize different students' schedules and ages allow for different amounts of practice time. There are no rigid requirements! However, as with anything, what your student puts into the lessons will ultimately determine how well and how quickly they progress. After our lesson each week, I will send you and your student a message with their practice directions and homework for the week. Sometimes I even send short videos helping with a song we are working on. Be sure to check your messages and take advantage of all my help! Before we get started, please send me a message telling me about your student. Some things I would love to know: *Is your student a beginner? If not, can you give me details about their current level? *Has your student played other instruments? *What are your hopes for your student's lessons? *Any other details about their music life that I would find helpful! If your student is a beginner, we will be using the Faber Primer Lesson Book and Theory Book. Links to those books are in the class materials. If they are not a beginner, then I will need details about their current level so we can figure out what piano books we would like to use for their lessons. I can't wait to get to know your student and play music together! A few housekeeping notes: * These are on-going lessons, so your child will have their class every week, and you will be charged weekly as well. If you would like to discontinue lessons for any reason, you are able to do that simply by unsubscribing to your section. * If something comes up and you must miss our lesson time for a certain week, please communicate with me at least 24 hours in advance, and I will be happy to do all I can to reschedule our class for the week. Otherwise, a make-up lesson cannot be provided for no-shows. * Please do your best to place the camera (phone, computer, other device at an angle where I can see your student at the piano or keyboard. * Before you send a schedule request, please note that the only time requests I may possibly be able to fulfill are for those between 8:30-2:30 Central Time. Please let me know if you have any questions! I would be thrilled to have you join my studio!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi, my name is Mrs. Ruthie, and I am so excited to meet you!
I am a professional harpist and private music teacher living in West Tennessee, USA. I teach from my own music studio online and in-person, and I am thrilled to expand my studio onto the Outschool platform. In my studio, I specialize in teaching private piano, voice, and harp lessons. Here on Outschool, you will find my "Piano Lessons: Personalized for You!" for any age group, as well as fun, small group singing classes for young learners and teenagers.
Music has been in my life since I was very young, when I began learning the piano at the age of 4. I started studying the harp at age 11, receiving my Diploma in Harp Performance from the acclaimed Associated Board of the Royal School of Music (ABRSM) in 2018. I am an alumni of Union University in Tennessee where I studied harp, voice, and piano. I graduated with my Bachelor's of Music in Composition in 2020.
Along with my classical music studies, I have well-rounded experience participating in many different styles of music while playing the harp, piano, or being a vocalist. I have experience in lead roles in musical theater productions, have participated in high-level choral and A-Capella singing groups, lead music with the piano in contemporary and more traditional churches, and played my harp for countless events ranging from symphonies to private parties. And as much as I love performing, in the last year and a half, I have found that I LOVE teaching music. With over 40 weekly private students ranging from 4 year-olds to 70 year-olds, teaching the beauty of music to my diverse student base keeps me inspired everyday. I hope to inspire your learner to love playing music as much as I do.
I live with my husband and our little orange kitten "Winnie" in a small town in Tennessee. Besides all things music, I love to spend time with my family and friends, cook yummy food, and work in my garden. Please reach out if you have any questions about my studio!
