Class Experience

As a team of experienced, certified language teachers, we take great pride in developing personalized, high quality lessons that meet the needs, goals, and interests of each student. We will incorporate a variety of interactive activities to introduce new concepts and motivate your child to practice second language and literacy skills. Some areas that can be focused on are: listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, and pronunciation.

Your child's teacher will contact you prior to your child's first one-on-one class to discuss lesson objectives. If your child has had some exposure to the language, that knowledge can be incorporated and built upon in this class; however, absolute beginners are welcome! The structure of these classes will give your child an opportunity to receive a level of attention that is not often available in the general classroom setting. This will enable them to work at their own pace and maximize their learning time.

If you are interested in alternative class times, ongoing classes, or even siblings classes, please just send us a message! We'll do our very best to accommodate your requests.

**KIMBERLY**

My name is Kimberly and I teach ESL, Business English, Spanish, French, and ESL test preparation classes to K-12 and adult students. I have been teaching language classes for over 13 years in public and private schools in Canada, France, and Mexico - as well as online. I hold a B.A in French/Spanish with a minor in Linguistics, as well as a degree in Pedagogy and TESOL certificate.

My approach to teaching is student-centered. I prefer to develop interactive classes that allow the student to practice using the language as much as possible during the lesson, while personalizing each lesson to meet the needs and preferences of each student. What got me into teaching was a volunteer opportunity to help students learning English in my hometown, and I quickly realized how much I loved teaching and helping others develop their communication skills through language. A random fact about me is that I currently have five cats and two dogs - all rescued from the streets here in Mexico. where I live.

We'll be a great fit if you are ready to participate a lot during our lessons and try your best, while having fun and bringing a positive attitude to class. This means that you are not afraid to try new things and are willing to express your needs and ask questions during our classes. My greatest interest is developing a lesson that works best for you!

**MARK**
My name is Mark and I teach ESL, American Sign Language, literacy, and Business English to all ages. I have taught for over 12 years in public and private schools here in the state of Maine, as well as the past five years online.

I hold an MBA in Business Administration, BS in Marketing/Management, BS in Early Childhood Education, and teaching licenses for K-12 Special Education in the state of Maine. I also am a certified Special Olympics coach and have been a Little League, YMCA basketball, and Boy Scout volunteer for the past 15 years.

My approach to teaching is student-centered, interactive, humorous, with a focus of long-term growth. I want my students to feel like each lesson is engaging, different, and a new experience for them. My background as an executive manager coupled with managing and leading thousands of employees, has helped me understand where students are now and what the best approach is to lead them to their goals.

A random fact about me is that my grandmother taught in a one room schoolhouse here in rural Maine (included in her class were her six younger brothers). She has been my inspiration to create that type of atmosphere in my brick and mortar and online classrooms.

We'll be a great fit if you are willing to try your best, understand that mistakes are an important part of learning, and apply your learning outside of the classroom. This is our classroom and I want you to be a partner in what our lessons look and feel like!

**ALVARO**

Hi, I’m Alvaro, a bilingual educator with 15 years of experience, currently based in Mexico. I specialize in reading, writing, math, ESL, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese for learners of all ages. I hold a Bachelor's in Middle School Education with a focus on English and a TESOL certification.

Being fluent in English, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese allows me to connect with students from different backgrounds. I use teaching methods like the Natural Approach and Task-Based Learning to make lessons practical and engaging. My goal is to help students learn in a way that feels natural and fun.

I started teaching in high school, helping my classmates with their studies, and that’s when I realized how much I love it. Since then, I’ve been inspired by great teachers who encouraged me to follow this path. Now, I aim to bring that same support and energy to my students.

Outside of academics, I like to mix sports and games into my lessons to keep things fun and active. I’m excited to help you reach your goals, whether it’s improving language skills or getting better at a subject!
