Informal assessment will be used throughout class to evaluate student abilities. Blending, fluency and phonics will be evaluated through reading. Vocabulary and comprehension will be developed through informal questions and activities.Class Experience

Beginner - Intermediate Level
In this ongoing class, students will receive 1:1 tutoring to develop their reading skills. We will work on developing skills related to these areas: -Phonics/ Sounds -Blending -Fluency -Vocabulary -Comprehension -Expression/ Strategy Each class, we will focus on a new decodable reader/book (unless otherwise noted/needed). Each class will be formatted to fit each learners' unique area(s) of focus. Books will adapted into a PowerPoint presentation. Students will be able to read the book on screen. As we work through each class, students will develop knowledge on various topics, text features and age-appropriate reading activities. Each student will start with week one and work through the book series. The following information includes the book genres, text features and activities we will be working on throughout this ongoing class. Book Genres: -Folk Tale -Realistic Fiction -Narrative Fiction -Historical Fiction -Biography -Animal Fantasy -Humorous Fiction Text Features: -Headings -Captions -Charts -Glossary Reading Based Activities/ Focus Areas: -Comprehension Skills and Strategy -Sequence -Fact and Opinion -Graphic Organizer -Cause and Effect -Draw Conclusions -Plot and Theme -Realism and Fantasy -Summarize -Ask Questions -Prior Knowledge -Character and Setting -Compare and Contrast -Visualize The following is information on the first two weeks of class: Week 1: Book: "The Bear Man" by Nicole D. Parental Guidance
There is no parental guidance required for this course. Students will work one-on-one using age-appropriate materials used in various school districts.

I have been happily teaching Elementary students for the last 10 years. I have experience working in small group reading circles and one to one independent tutoring. I personally love reading and inspiring a love of reading in my students. I bring props and activities to class to aid in reading development. Learners enjoy using charts, graphs and props in class to express their ideas. These materials are fun and can help develop comprehension, imagination and vocabulary. I believe using these resources engages students and helps develop their reading skills even more. I look forward to working with you child!
