Description
Class Experience
~ To improve reading comprehension, develop analysis, and nurture higher-order thinking. ~ To provide a safe and comfortable learning space for all learners. ~ All multiple-choice and written responses are submitted privately in the chat. This allows me to manage the learning needs of the students and to provide remediation and guidance as needed. ~ I will encourage building fluency and confidence by calling on students to help me read the passage aloud. However, students that prefer not to read aloud are safe with me. Students may send a private message to me in the chat and ask me not to call on them during requests for reading aloud. Note, I will call on everyone unless the parent or student specifies not to call on them.
About me - ~ I have taught English Language Arts in middle school for 16 years. ~ I am ELA certified for grades 4th through 8th. ~ I am certified as a generalist in Early Childhood - 4th Grade. ~ I am certified in ESL for grades Early Childhood - 12th Grade. ~ I am certified in Special Education for grades Early Childhood - 12th Grade.
No homework - However, students may complete any unfinished questions independently after class and submit them to me for feedback. Any submissions should be sent privately between the learner and the teacher. Please do not submit answers as a response to the weekly classroom post. This will cause all enrolled learners and parents to see your answers.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
All assessments are informal and completed during class. Students will be encouraged to utilize the ZOOM chatbox and privately submit their responses to the reading comprehension questions. Through each question, I will use these real-time class responses to guide the students through reading comprehension strategies and test-taking skills to lead everyone toward the correct answer.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
