Description:
This is a one-on-one classroom style. I will not be preparing anything instead your learner will bring their needs to me. After signing up for tutoring, you will receive an email asking the following questions.
What math is your learner currently taking?
What math curriculum is your learner currently taking?
What areas are they struggling in? Pre-skills or current skills?
What time zone do you live in?
What day and time works best for you (please give me 3 different possibilities)?

What will the student learn?
The student can bring whatever they are struggling with in math. I will send a message 24 hours ahead of the session to see what the student is working on. Of course, if you leave out some things don't worry about it. Ultimately, we will go over whatever the learner is struggling with at that moment.

How will they learn?
This depends on your learner. During the first couple of tutoring sessions, I will be trying to figure out how your learner learns. This will help me decide how to present the math concepts. If your learner is taking a class, whether in public school or you are doing a particular homeschool, and you want them to follow the steps being taught we can do that.

What background Knowledge required?
No background knowledge is required. The most common issue with students in math is that they missed or didn't understand the foundational skills necessary to understand the current skill. I will be working hard to find these missing or miss-understood skills. This will help your learner to understand the patterns displayed in math and allow them to move on in their knowledge.
I do ask that they understand how to use zoom and how to annotate in the zoom whiteboard share. The following videos and articles can help.

What kind of homework is assigned?
Sometime I will assign practice problems. This will help me know if I can move on to the next session or if I need to re-visit the concepts. I can show a learner how to do something. Have them work on problems in my presence, but the real test of whether or not they understand will be if they can still do it when I am not there to guide them and if they can apply the patterns to a bigger problem. This is the importance of practice.

Teacher expertise and credentials
For the past 4.5 years, I have worked at a community college. During that time my job consisted of instructing math classes and working with students below college level math and English. During this time I saw a lot of students who were not prepared for the discovery and problem-solving element of math in college. Most students struggle with middle school math concepts in real-world applications. Without this foundation of math fluency and problem-solving student struggle with harder math concepts. As my child starts middle math the urgency of making sure she has a proper foundation of math became real. I decided to homeschool and joined this community of home-schoolers.
I believe all students can succeed when they are taught in a style they understand. I would describe my style as Charlotte Mason or discovery, but I feel students need a mix of drill or classical method for foundational math concepts. If you believe that this style is how your learner understands, then I encourage you to sign up for my course.
