Do you love building with Lego? Perhaps you enjoy listening and reading stories too! This exciting class combines both stories and Lego. Students are encouraged to listen to or participate in reading a short story each week, during which they will be challenged to create different themed items from the story out of Lego. Once the read-aloud has finished, students can use their creations to help retell the story themselves or create their own together. This class is an excellent introduction to building with Lego, following instructions, and beginner comprehension skills. The class helps students develop the following: * problem-solving skills * listening skills * creative thinking * comprehension and understanding. Each class will follow a similar format: 1. Greetings and Introducing the story for the day 2. Listening to and/or reading the story with regular breaks to build elements from the story 3. Sharing Lego creations with peers whilst discussing the story 4. Retelling the story or creating our own story using the props made 5. What's on next week and Goodbyes. Here is a sample of lesson one: We will read together the story "Mr Gale's Garden". During the story, students will be prompted and guided if needed, to create a watering can, spade, and vegetable. After reading the book, students will retell the story using their Lego props and create their own if time permits. Here are the stories we will be reading together in class over the next few weeks: w/c 9.1.23 Week 1 Mr Gale's Garden w/c 16.1.23 Week 2 Robot Rick and the Toys at Night w/c 23.1.23 Week 3 Come into the Woods w/c 30.1.23 Week 4 The Old Toy Shop w/c 6.2.23 Week 5 On Your Marks, Kit and Sam w/c 13.2.23 Week 6 The Big Sports Quiz w/c 20.2.23 Week 7 My Tooth is Hurting w/c 27.2.23 Week 8 The Best Chef Contest w/c 6.3.23 Week 9 Dad's Birthday Surprise w/c 13.3.23 Week 10 Jay's Day At The Park w/c 20.3.23 Week 11 How to Spot Birds Near You w/c 27.3.23 Week 12 Your Body From Top to Toe These stories are from Twinkl and are not needed at home to prepare for the lesson. We are trained ESL teachers and all of our courses are ESL-friendly and are great for students who have the desire to participate in STEAM/STEM activities through an English-speaking class. This class is accessible to a student with an A1 CEFR level of English if supported by an adult, or B1 or above if attending the class independently.
