Learn French using the most effective language learning method! All classes with Madame Morgan are taught using methods backed by the science of language acquisition. Rather than just learning the rules of a language and memorizing vocabulary, learners will acquire language, which means they will get language into their brain in a similar way to how we learned our first language. In this class, learners will be exposed to some basic phrases in French. We will create a fun story together in French, and I will provide learners with a written version of our story after class for learners to read on their own. I will ask for input from learners throughout the creation of the story, so bring as much creativity as you would like to class - the stories can get as whimsical and wacky as the class decides! Learners will have opportunities to interact with each other during the creation of class stories and through answering questions about the story. Most of the class will be conducted in French, with clarifications of meaning given in English when necessary. After class, I will provide learners with a written version of the story for them to read through, and some exercises to practice working with the story. This extra practice will help to cement the meanings of these new words in your brain. Sign up for a class with me to see how fun and easy learning a new language can be! *This class is appropriate for complete beginner through level 1 language learners, or learners in their first year of learning the language. If you have any doubts as to whether this class is right for you, please send me a message!* Each session will be learner-directed, in that they will bring the story to life with their ideas. I will provide a structure of commonly-used words to help students learn useful French. Here are the general story themes/words students can expect to learn in the upcoming weeks: Week of 23 May - reçoit un colis/a peur de Week of 28 May - écrit un message/prend ~Summer break, will resume in the fall~ * All classes with Madame Morgan are taught using methods backed by the science of language acquisition. I teach languages using a storytelling method called TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling), which is known for providing an optimal amount of “comprehensible input” to students. Comprehensible input is the key to language acquisition; simply put, it is communication that students are able to understand, even if they have never heard the words before. This is achieved through a variety of methods, including using visuals, gestures, cognates, and pre-teaching the translations of the new words. Rather than just learning the rules of a language and memorizing vocabulary, learners will acquire language, which means they will get language into their brain in a similar way to how we learned our first language. This makes it so that language use is automatic - you will gain an instinct for the language without having to memorize any rules. This deeper learning or acquisition of a language is what helps lead learners to fluency most effectively. Learners will be immersed in comprehensible input of the language, which is language that learners can understand, even if they have never seen the words before. Figuring out meaning like this is the best way for our brains to assimilate new language and get to a desired fluency level most effectively. This method is similar to language immersion programs or to the Natural Approach language learning method.*
