Class Experience

This social club is so much more than just a safe, friendly talk club.

I invite everyone to join the conversation! Parents with horse-obsessed children helped develop the idea behind this course. While this course is a social club, it is also an educational opportunity. This course is student-led. Because this course is unique in guided-discussion topics, learners from both my beginning equine course and advanced equine anatomy course enjoy this class.

This course is set up to work like this:
1.) Students let the teacher know what topics they'd like to learn about in the future.
2.) I put together a short, in-depth lesson of the material students wish to learn for the following week.
3.) Students and teacher work together through the "lecture" material while sharing experiences & interests of their own.

The Topic of Learning each week keeps learners engaged and learning, moving forward in what they know about horses and other equines. However, the social aspect of the class allows students to practice social skills, conversational skills, interpersonal communication skills, respect, and social etiquette. It allows students to discuss and interact with others who share the same interests and passions they have. This is a laid back, informal class that mixes with student-directed themed topics of interest for educational development.

This class is inclusive. While the class is a social class, students will be required to take turns in conversation. Students will not be required to keep their screens on after the initial OS Verification each class period. Chat functions remain on during class assuming students are respectful of their words towards others. Students who are reluctant to interact verbally are welcome to attend class and will be given ample opportunity to "warm up" to be comfortable in the classroom. If there are other ways I can better include your learner based on their needs, please message me and I am happy to welcome your learner into my classroom.

** Please Note: Per U.S. Law and O.S. Policy, I will not diagnose, treat, or prescribe any real horse. There will be no medical advice given to any learner's pet, although I'm always interested in hearing what your vets have done to your horses! We can discuss what a vet might do to treat a non-specific horse if they might have a condition, but my answer to students' health questions will be to ask their veterinarian.

Learning Goals

- Each week learning goals change based on the Learning Topic of the Week.
- Generally speaking regardless of learning topics, students will develop interpersonal communication skills (empathy, active listening skills, emotional intelligence development, collaborative thinking and teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, etc). Strong interpersonal skills will help children in all aspects of life, including animal-related careers should they take that route later.
