Class Experience
US Grade 8 - 11
In this English Language Arts class for teens, students will have an opportunity to practise writing geared towards academic and/or essay writing. The focus will be on creating clarity, accuracy and proper use of vocabulary and grammar to effectively communicate their ideas and articulate their arguments. Students will develop confidence in their writing - style, grammar, diction and personal expression.
Ms. Shiren has an Honours Bachelors Degree from the University of Toronto, where she practised essay writing for the social sciences throughout her degree, in both English and Spanish. She has written for community magazines in her home city of Toronto, and also worked as a copyeditor. She has taught and tutored English from young people through to adults, in the forms of English as a Second Language, Vocabulary Development, and Essay Writing and other Writing Practice. She has long-term clients who continue to grow with her as their writing continues to develop over time.
A personal notebook that can be brought to class so that students can review their progress and class notes.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Assessment is informal and integral to the development of the student in each class.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
