Ongoing English Writing Practise (Teens)

In this English Language Arts class for teens, students will have an opportunity to practise writing geared towards academic and/or essay writing. The focus will be on creating clarity, accuracy and proper use of vocabulary and grammar to effectively communicate their ideas and articulate their arguments. Each class will focus on what students are wanting to learn in a given week. In this way, the class is learner-driven but with a clear goal as to the aspects of writing we will be focusing on. Some of these goals include development of clear argumentation and organization of thoughts; exploration of the best essay format to select for a learner's goals for that week; proper vocabulary choice; and best use of word and/or style choice; citation may also be considered based on learner need in a given week. Each student will have an opportunity to focus on what they bring to class, or they can partake in the lesson material that arises out of another learner's exploration. Writing prompts or other exercises to enhance writing may also be provided as options in a given week.
