I've worked with this age group for years so I'm able to keep them on task, re-direct when needed but connect with them so much they BEG for more time and more classes. Kids get opportunities to participate, discuss ideas and possible solutions in order to solve problems. Teacher models and learners work through problems together as we all fill out the worksheet problems. Math topics & problems change although every week is focused on skills that are rooted in kindergarten foundational standards. There will be mini-lessons with skills practice on the daily worksheet. We take breaks between lessons and skip count with songs, exercise, practice math facts or review with a game. Students get to know each other, develop relationships, and participation is encouraged. This class is challenging but children learn through modeling, grade level curriculum & teacher expertise. Homework optional but included and encouraged. Videos, handouts, games, hundreds chart, coins, crayons, worksheets, and shared computer screen will be utilized. Worksheets need to be printed out before each class. Included are posters for days of the week, months of the year and a hundreds chart. REVIEW: We love Ms. Wendy! My daughter went to Ms.Wendy's class for a full school year and learned so much! This class is not just about math - she learned about money, time, months and days of the week, additions and subtraction, and more. It was a fun, engaging, and highly educational class. And Ms.Wendy — just hands down! — one of the best teachers we've met on the outschool — she is patient, caring, and has this amazing approach of making math seem fun and easy to learn. Students MUST have video turned on and a microphone available. STUDENTS SHOULD BE ABLE TO COPY WHAT I WRITE ON MY WORKSHEET. In addition, learners can leave messages or videos and they will receive a comment or extra video from teacher. This class does move fast in the beginning but since we follow the same type of pattern, kids get used to the routine and adapt to the small changes made each week. PARENTS BEFORE CLASS: You'll need to turn on some notifications to receive communication from the teacher, weekly worksheets or changes in our class schedule. Parent Comments:
Ms. Wendy is a phenomenal teacher. My son has learned so much in her class. My 2 year old daughter even picked up counting and some math songs by overhearing from a different room! Ms. Wendy is not only engaging, but covers so much - counting by 2s, 5s, 10s, counting money, reading a clock, addition/subtraction, graphs, word problems, calendar, writing/spelling, patterns, ruler, shapes, etc. Her curriculum is well-structured and goes above and beyond. For instance, she not only provides daily homework, but homework videos with all the answers which is helpful not only for the kids, but busy parents. My son is shy and through her end of class show & tell each day he has become a lot better at speaking up. It's also a great way for online classmates to get to know one another. My son is always asking us math problems on his own now, including negative numbers. And he can solve these problems, because she's drilled in his head how to use the hundreds chart. I cannot recommend her enough!
You are awesome. My son is learning so much from you. You devote tons of time.
I am so blessed to find this class! I like the in-class worksheet and how you keep every child engaged. You have great energy and always smiling which helps my daughter to stay interested.
By the way, you are an amazing teacher. This is our first Outschool class where I feel like a real teacher is teaching the class. I appreciate all your patience and steadfastness to such young children. My mom was a teacher of middle school for 35 years so I can spot the good ones. :)
Very good class. Encourages participation. Everyone gets a turn to speak often.
