This is an ongoing class. Students will learn about Order of Operations - Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication/Division, Addition/Subtraction and review expressions with different operations in fractions and decimals.
Class experience
US Grade 5
The topics we will be covering are parenthesis, exponent, multiplying/division, and addition/subtraction. In the first week, the students will review the order of operations, placing emphasis on the order of the operations, and understand that if they do not follow PEMDAS, then they can end up with the wrong answer even though their calculations may be correct. They will go through each step and practice how to solve an expression with all 4 operations. Solving an expression without following...
The students will improve their understanding of the topics and will learn other strategies on how to solve any problem concerning Order of Operations - and Fractions. We will go over other strategies by sharing my screen and by working in their notebooks then share their answers in the chat.
I have been teaching math for about 5 years now. I have been an elementary teacher for almost 7 years. Teaching this topic is not new to me, so students will leave having an understanding of the topic and different strategies that they can use to solve PEMDAS and other 5th-grade math topics.
