US Grade 2 - 5
Students will come together to read a current events article, discuss their insights, and apply what they've learned in a group trivia activity! This course is meant to entice and empower students to consistently learn about what's happening around the world so they can become knowledgeable global citizens! New articles will range from a variety of child friendly topics. Breaking news, world news, local news, etc. Topics: Young Pilot Flies around the World, New Photos of Jupiter, Flash Floods at U.S National Parks, Sea Turtles in Georgia, Great Barrier Reef News, Monarch Butterfly News, Dinosaur Footprints in China, New US. Poet Laureate, Space Telescope Photo, and more! Our classroom structure is informal, and discussion based. Students will be given the article that matches their current reading level. Next, students will be given the opportunity to volunteer and read from sections of our pre selected article. We will popcorn from student to student as we move through the article. Throughout the reading, students are encouraged to post comments, reflections, or connections they've made in our chat. We will pause as a group periodically to discuss any significant thoughts or questions. Oftentimes, I've found that article readings lead to questions that require research. We will play it by ear on those occasions. Finally, we will end our session with either trivia, kahoot, or blooket activity! Students will get a chance to apply what they've learned with some friendly competition.
