45 mins in-class hours per weekHomework
1 hour per week. I do not plan on assigning homework as this is a course designed to take one class or multiple classes. However, I would like all the writings uploaded into the classroom, under the teacher tab, so I may look at grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, spelling, and the weekly literacy device. I, typically, provide feedback to each student within a week.Assessment
The students will be assessed on their writing. Sentence structure, spelling, grammar, and the proper use of the weekly literacy device will be assessed. Information will be discussed with each student.Class Experience
US Grade 10 - 12
This is the ongoing class, Students will be taught specific literacy devices used in creative writing by using their imagination and the literacy device assigned for the week. Teacher writing prompts can be given as starters to help the students start writing a story or students can choose “Author’s Choice” which allows them to come up with their own idea for a story. Week one - What is a literacy device? Week two - Metaphors, Similes, and Analogy Week three - Extended Metaphors Week four - Irony Week five - Anachronism This course is designed to learn how to write an effective story using the given weekly literacy device. We will have open discussions on what it means to write using the weekly device and, then, the students will have time to work on their story. Students have much to write. They have a wealth of information, whether it is from small moments in their life or other personal stories they would like to share. Students are eager to put those those to paper. The best way to enhance a student's writing experience is to give them ample mini-opportunities to write. This course is designed to provide structured writing experiences that will lead students to improved writing skills. Students will be able to privately meet with the teacher during class using the breakout room, while the other students are writing their stories quietly in the main class. In addition, students will be able to have the opportunity to share their story, if they choose to share. Peer review will be allowed for those students who do not mind. If the student does not want to participate in a peer review, the student will be able to meet with the teacher privately. After class, the students is expected to send their story, even if not completed, to the teacher for review. The teacher will review within one week and will provide the feedback to the student. The class will be interactive and lighthearted. The students will guide the learning and the teacher will be the facilitator. I believe we should learn at least one new thing a day, including me. I hope to learn from the students, as well as the students learn from the teacher and each other.
