Class Experience

If you don't see a suitable time/day to enroll then please contact me and I'll see if I can arrrange another day/time.

In this ongoing class we will be drawing and sometimes watercolour painting in a relaxed informal setting (students are welcome to chat to each other). Along the way students will get some idea of perspective, shading, form, composition and lighting and maybe make some new friends :).

The theme will be changeable based on animals, cartoons, computer games, films and books. Sometimes I will suggest ideas we can do but also students can say what they would like to draw/learn or other times the subject might be influenced by the season (Christmas, halloween etc). Students will be able to see me at all times and for the drawing I will be using a graphic tablet which allows me to show the drawing process clearly.

I believe that it's drawing as much as you can (practice long enough at anything and you'll get good at it) that helps improve your skills and hopefully the art club helps with that process. All that is needed is some enthusiasm and the willingness not to give up.

What we draw from week to week will be partly based on what the students decide and my choice based on what I think might be suitable. Some times it could be drawing a cartoon character or animals, another week the season might dictate what we do (drawing a snow scene at Christmas for example) and another it might be doing a watercolour landscape. Most weeks only a pencil, eraser, ruler and coloured pencils will be required. Students will be notified in advance if watercolours and watercolour paper is required. It will be very varied and hopefully interesting for the students.

Week 1: 31st July drawing Simba from the lion king
Week 2: 7th August As suggested by one of the students we will be drawing Ladybug form the cartoon Miraculous and a funny piz
week 3: 28th August cat noir from the cartoon Miraculous
week 4: 4th September magical unicorns
week 5: 11th september we will be drawing butterflys and a funny taco!
week 6: september 18th puppies and glasses or puppies wearing glasses :)
week 7: September 25th The lama from Fortnite, french fries and maybe a dragon

The class has been running for some time now and we have drawn a variety of subjects. Star wars, Fortnite, animals, Cartoons too numerous to mention, famous landmarks, anime, kermit the frog and a rubiks cube. Although we haven't done an Ardvark or a zebra, yet!

further weeks will be added as this is an ongoing class

Ruler and eraser. Coloured pencils and lead pencils, will be mostly used but also watercolour paints and brushes sometimes. Marker or ink pens can be useful as well.
Paper. Any paper will do (keeping a sketch book is a good idea so they can look back on what they have done) but for painting watercolour paper is best.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been working with children (Wales, UK) for about 20 years in various settings.

I have attended a Rudolf Steiner teacher training course and also qualified as an after school club leader. Mostly I have experience with home educated Children of all ages in a voluntary capacity. For 15 years I helped run a social group for home educating families and for the past 10 years (still doing this) I have helped with a large family camp for home educating families. This has involved a bit of everything. I've helped with animation classes, sport event and art classes. I have also taught making clay bread ovens and making bamboo pipes from bamboo. For the past couple of years I've helped out with a forest school club, mainly teaching the children (8-11 years) string tricks and making survival bracelets.

My hobby is art which I've been doing on and of for 20 years. For the past year I've been teaching art online classes to a group of home educated children as what I mostly enjoy is passing on skills (whatever the subject) to others. But beware sometimes my cat joins in the online sessions!
