Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten
In our 1-on-1 session, I will work with learners on any mathematical concepts that they may need more assistance with. I have always had a great love for math and I want all of my students to enjoy it as much as I do. I try to make learning key math skills fun by incorporating games, projects, real world scenarios, and a welcoming style of teaching where learners do not need to feel shy, embarrassed, or rushed. I will always structure our weekly sessions to go at the pace of the learner and meet them where they're at in this challenging adventure of math!

Parents/Guardians: Please send me a message on Outschool or post in the classroom, at least 48 hours prior to our class meetings, in regards to what concepts/skills your learner needs to focus on and I will create lessons based on your suggestions. If no message is sent 48 hours prior to our meeting, I will prepare a generic lesson as a means to assess where they are in their math journey and we can go from there.

There are so many different ways to come to an answer in a math problem, so I like to take a look at how learners see the problem first and go from there. These "math talks" are important so that I can see what strategies the learner is using, as well as if they truly understand what the question is asking of them. If there is a math "trick" or strategy that may get them to an answer quicker, I will share it with them, we will practice it, and then the learner will have a whole toolbox full of strategies in their pocket for whenever they may need it.

Learners are also more than welcome to bring homework or assignments to class for help working through problems that they may not understand. **I just ask that you post a picture of the homework/assignment in the classroom or through a message so that I can prepare some notes or a lesson to help your learner better understand the topic at hand.**

There are so many different math skills I can help your learner with, but here are just a few in each grade level:

- counting, shapes, colors
- writing/identifying numbers
- one-on-one correspondence
- comparing numbers (greater than/less than)

- recognize 2D and 3D shapes and attributes

3rd Grade:
- multiplication and division
- addition and subtraction with regrouping/borrowing
- identifying and explaining number patterns
- fractions
- area and perimeter
- geometry/shapes

4th Grade:
- addition/subtraction/multiplication/division

Learning Goals

Learners will learn new strategies and "tricks" to help them improve and master math concepts specified by parent/guardian. Learners will have a variety of strategies in their "math toolbox" to help them think through and explain their reasoning when solving math problems.

Other Details

Supply List
Learners/Parents/Guardians should provide a math topic or a picture of the homework/assignment to be covered at least 48 hours (2 days) before we meet so that I can properly prepare an individualized lesson for class.

Learners will need:
- pencil and paper
- any printables posted in the classroom for our lesson

*If anything other than the basic materials listed above will be needed for class, I will let you know through a post in the classroom. If you think your learner will need manipulatives to help with counting, addition, subtraction, etc., please have those handy as well.*
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Hello, my name is Kristi. I am a married fur-mom to two dogs, Olaf and Olivia. I enjoy reading, being outdoors, learning new things, and going on adventures with my husband!

I have a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education. I also have a MBA concentrating in Accounting. Math is a big passion of mine! I am a certified PreK-5 teacher in the state of Georgia. I also hold current Gifted and Talented, Special Education, and TESOL education certifications. I have been teaching in some capacity for 11 years with experience in all elementary grade levels, from pre-K to 5th grade! I taught at a private preschool for 1 year and the rest of my teaching years have been in a public school setting or online. In May of 2019, I began a new endeavor, teaching ESL online to students in China. I absolutely love teaching online and meeting students all the way across the world! As a teacher, I believe it is my responsibility to make learning fun, help and encourage students to be successful in learning, and fostering a love for learning at an early age. In my classroom, you will see plenty of activities for varying learning styles, lots of movement and interactive activities, and learning through play.

I am passionate about teaching young children, and I look forward to meeting your learner(s) and helping them develop their young minds! I can't wait to meet you in the classroom!
