Class Experience

US Grade 2
This ongoing class is for students that have already learned 2nd grade skills.

In this class we will review what is taught in the 2nd grade curriculum.

Week of July 4th: We will have a quick fluency warm up of single digit addition before moving on to 2 and 3 digit addition with and without regrouping. We will also practice talking about the digits that make up and number and the value of each digit in a number.

Week of July 11th: We will warm up by finding the different addition equations that make 10. We will then move on to finding the next (multiple of) ten ( If we are at 13 the next ten would be 20). We will also use those numbers to make equations. We will also practice adding numbers to multiples of ten. ( 20+25). Our goal with this is to be able to add these equations mentally.

Week of July 18th: We will get our brains warmed up with single digit subtraction. After we are all warmed up and ready to go we will. work on subtracting multiples of ten. We will then move on to 2 and 3 digit subtraction with and without borrowing.

Week of July 25th: We will practice subtraction fluency to get our brains warmed up. We will then practice 2 and 3 digit subtraction with and without borrowing.

Week of August 1st: We will warm up with some multiple digit additions (3+3+3). We will then practice multiplication using groups and arrays.

Week of August 8th: We will practice multiplication tables 0, 1, 2, 5, 10, and 11. These all have quick tricks that we can use instead of using groups or arrays.

Week of August 15th: We will talk about non-standard vs. standard measurement. We will practice measuring different items with non-standard measurement tools. In this class students will need something to use as non-standard measurement. I would recommend a paper clip or a coin but anything small will work.

Week of August 22nd: In this class we will need a ruler. We will practice measuring items and comparing the lengths of items.

Week of August 29th: We will get our brains warmed up with double digit addition and subtraction. We will then move on to word problems using addition and subtraction.

You do not need to be at a previous class to understand the next class and you are able to join this ongoing class at anytime.
