As a certified Speech Teacher in practice for over 22 years, I know that children absorb material best in small settings and in small group situations which tend to be optimal. In this ideal learning situation, students can feel empowered knowing what they are capable of and enjoy learning relevant language and conversational skills. It is of great importance to me that during this time together the student will make gains and an understanding of the material covered. In this 30-minute class offered 1x's per week, your children will learn strategies that will enhance their vocabulary, language and grammar skills. The material taught in classes will be reinforced via homework given after each class. During class, we will begin with a game geared toward various skill sets including: comprehension, memory and deductive reasoning skills. This will promote learning vocabulary and helping to establish a solid foundation in phonetic skills with rhyming words taught in a multi-modality approach. There will also be an opportunity to answer comprehension questions and zone in on social language as well. We will then play a short game, to enhance higher level processing skills. My goal is to help your child with interactive conversational life skills by expanding vocabulary and proper grammar. If there is a specific skill you want me to teach and focus on please email me at least 24 hours before class. It would also be helpful to me to know your learners' areas of interest (ie. Barbie's, Pokemon, horses, Minecraft, etc.) so that I may tailor each class to your students' interest therefore, making our time together meaningful and memorable for each specific individual. There is no prior experience or knowledge required to sign up! Please keep in mind that all the instruction given in this course is learner specific. Each class will be tailored to your learners needs. Listed below is the schedule of what will be taught in a class for instruction: Week One (10/9): play based memory games for short- and long-term retrieval skills, turn taking skills in a group to create collaboration on material and strategies. Week Two (10/16): letter writing (identifying parts of a letter and devising grammatically correct sentences for sending letters) Week Three (10/23): short story sequencing (learning beginning, middle and end parts of initial story construction) Week Four (10/30): story development (often used in conjunction with PowerPoint presentations to allow the learner to self-edit his/her work) Week Five (11/6): No Class, teacher out this week Week Six (11/13): using "word of the week" to expand vocabulary Week Seven (11/20): learning abstract and concrete categories (in a fun game like fashion to enhance categorical thinking) Week Eight (11/27): presentation skills (making eye contact, knowing your audience and building self-confidence) Week Nine (12/4 ): use and understanding of attributes in daily conversation (building descriptive words) Please send me a request if you don’t see a date/ time that works for you, and I will try my best to accommodate your requested time(s).
